Talk:BLAB - The Big Leisurely A/B

Hi, I'm new to the wiki and would like to suggest the following improvements to the tek:

  • I've found I need to use 1.5L of vinegar in Step 1 for bark (imperfectly) powdered with a coffee grinder. Might not be an issue when using pre-powdered bark.
  • Only 1.89g of fumaric acid is needed for the tek when using FASW (the solubility of fumaric acid in water is 0.63g per 100ml and you only need 300ml of it for the tek)
  • The best way to dissolve fumaric acid is by using hot water in which case only minimal mixing is necessary. (I cool it down before use - don't know if it's necessary.)
  • It's much better to use distilled water for both FASW and sodium carbonate solution as hard water will decrease solubility and crash out calcium carbonate from the water.
  • There's no need to evaporate FASW unless one wants keep the DMT in fumarate form. It can be reduced in a Pyrex baking tray on the hob, cooled down, filtered with a coffee filter to remove excess fumaric acid and used for water precipation as is.
  • To avoid excess sodium carbonate crashing out when doing the water precipation, it's best to mix 7g of sodium carbonate with 100ml of water when making the sodium carbonate solution (7g per 100ml being the solubility of sodium carbonate in water at 0°C). The pH difference using a more concentrated solution is insignicant if you use 50% FASW/50% sodium carbonate solution.
  • Even if the sodium carbonate is added very slowly to FASW, there's a white powder (either sodium carbonate or sodium fumarate) settling on the bottom of the glass which doesn't dissolve unless you mix it in.
  • I've found that after 24 hours in the fridge the water is clear and no more DMT seems to be coming out.
  • Also, adding the sodium carbonate slowly doesn't seem to produce cleaner product.
  • I can't see how using too much water would make the water precipation fail as DMT is insoluble in water. I'll test this by not reducing my FASW and just adding an equal amount of sodium carbonate solution and report back the results.

I didn't add any of this to the tek as I'm not sure if this is how this wiki works; please share your thoughts on whether it'd be useful to include it in the tek or elsewhere in the wiki, if not I hope whoever is reading the tek will also check this page and find the information helpful.

Thanks for reading!
