What is gramine
- Gramine is an indole alkaloid present in some plants such as Phalaris, Phargmites, and Arundo spp. While it has been previously feared by some to be potentially toxic, recent evidence shows it to have very low toxicity (relative to other alkaloids such as tryptamines) and to have potential antimutagenic effects. It is found most commonly in Avena sativa (Oats). [1] [2]
Chemical and physical properties
Gramine (3-(dimethylaminomethyl)-indole) properties http://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/Psychedelic_Compounds_Chemical_and_Physical_Properties#Gramine]
Extractions
Gramine is not soluble in naphtha or petroleum ether, therefore extractions using these solvents will not contain gramine. It is soluble in ethanol.
Analysis
Gramine and other alkaloid's Rf for TLC and column chromatography
