Traditional names include Babul and Kikar. Has long history of medicinal use.

Has 9 different sub species.

• A.nilotica ssp. indica contains 11.6% condensed tannins in the bark

• A.nilotica ssp. subulata contains 13.1% condensed tannins in the bark

Geographic distribution

Africa, India, Middle East, introduced to Australia.

Identification

leaves bipinnate; flowers yellow balls ; pods constricted between seeds.
