Talk:DMT Containing Plants

From DMT-Nexus Wiki

This page is very large! Might be worth using this as a start on a list page like - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flowers - rather than trying to fit all this info in...

If this was a list page then it would make sense to create a page that was a slightly more readable intro to DMT-containing plants.

The purpose of this page is to have all of the alkaloid content available for comparative reference. Each plant could potentially have its own page and would be listed in category:botanics (though a separate list wouldn't be out of the question). This page would link to those pages as well. What this page needs is a plant info template. There is a sections in the nexian dmt handbook that will serve as an intro to dmt-containing plants and elaborate only on the more commonly used and available plants.--amor_fati 03:23, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I'll create a template for the plants on this page, this will make the page a bit shorter and more readable. --TheTraveler 08:12, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Would this data be more useful as a table if it's aimed to be used in that way? Are images getting in the way of the data?

Botanical Transclusion Project

I'm going to be undertaking a project in which I create a page for each botanical, head it with the boxes contained on this page, and replace the ones on this page with partial transclusion markup (similar to templates). This way, all info about each particular botanical will be centralized on its own page and can be used freely on other pages while updating automatically. The downside is that this will require the creation of many new pages, but it will reduce clutter on this page and discrepancies between pages that reference any of the botanicals.

On a side note, I wonder if it would be possible to embed pop-outs of these boxes on the forum, as in clicking on a plant name mentioned on the forum and having it's particular box pop out (also containing the link to it's particular page, just as it does here). In any case, I think that expanded integration between the forum and the wiki would help to further the cause of the wiki while also enhancing the forum, itself.

Alright, so this has been successfully applied Mimosa hostilis with transclusion occurring in DMT_Containing_Plants#Mimosa and The_Nexian_DMT_Handbook#Common_Botanical_Sources, using {{:Mimosa hostilis}}. So I will now apply the common name, Jurema, to the box on the mimosa hostilis page, and it will show up on the handbook and botanicals list in the same manner.--amor_fati 15:28, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Another option for if creating a page for each plant is undesirable, would be to label each box on the botanical list so it can be specifically recalled for transclusion elsewhere. I think that an individual page for each would make it easier to keep track of and edit, so that the list can simply be left as is. However, one consideration may be server space, and I'm not fully aware of how that works. I'll keep going as I am at my leisure, and if changes need to be made, it shouldn't be too difficult.--amor_fati 15:41, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
The wikipedia transclusion employed by user:Fatcat is an incredibly expedient way to get botanical pages set up, but is there a better or more attractive way for our wiki to handle them, while also leaving room for additions (like preparation of MHRB in the mimosa article)? I'm pretty sure that a settings adjustment by user:TheTraveler is in order to accomodate this, but I'm not sure.--amor_fati 16:12, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
