General Plant Info

Acacia prismifolia, is a shrub, 0.15-0.5 m high, which grows on rocky slopes in dense shrubland.

The species is now listed as Presumed Extinct (Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 (Western Australia): September 2013)

Related to species of the ‘ A. sulcata group’, fide R.S.Cowan & B.R. Maslin, Nuytsia 9: 69 (1993), and perhaps closest to Acacia brachyphylla which has 6–8-nerved, compressed phyllodes and the sepals only shortly united basally.

Geographic distribution

Known only from the type locality and another specimen purported to have been collected from Albany, south-western W.A.

Identification

Shrub 0.15–0.5 m high. Branchlets densely villous, the indumentum sparser with age. Stipules persistent, linear to linear-triangular, 1–1.5 mm long.

Phyllodes frequently slightly curved, trigonous in section, 5–9 mm long, 1–2 mm wide, obtuse but with a short, distinct mucro, thick, sparsely hairy on margins and abaxial nerves, sometimes densely hairy around pulvinus, 4-nerved in all; central nerve slightly raised on upper surface but strongly raised (when dry) on lower surface; gland absent or c. 1 mm above pulvinus, obscure.

Inflorescences simple, crowded at ends of branchlets; peduncles 3–4 mm long, glabrous; basal bract as long or longer than peduncle, long-rostriform, villous; heads globular, 3-4 mm diam., 9–10-flowered. Flowers 5-merous; calyx 2/3-united, the lobes triangular; petals glabrous.
