The NBOMe series of chemicals are primarily N-o-methoxybenzyl analogs of the 2C-X family of phenethylamines, and are 5-HT2A (serotonin 2A) receptor agonists. A few are amphetamine analogs. With few exceptions (e.g. mescaline-NBOMe), compounds in this group are active at verly low sub-milligram doses. These chemicals have nearly no history of human use prior to 2010 when they first became available online.

Effects
25I-NBOMe effects usually last between 6–10 hours if taken sublingually or bucally (cheek membranes), whereas insufflated usually lasts between 4–6 hours. Both routes of administration can have minor after effects for up to a week.[2]

Toxicity and harm potential
25I-NBOMe is a very new substance, with little known about its pharmacological or behavioral risks. The LD50 (median lethal dose) is not known. Some pharmacological deaths have been attributed to 25I-NBOMe overdose.[3]
It came to media attention in early 2012 after a cluster of seven non-fatal overdoses with the drug were reported in or around Richmond, Virginia.[4][5][6] It is also believed to be the drug that caused a fatal overdose of a teen in East Grand Forks, Minnesota in June 2012[7] and the death of a 21-year-old man from Little Rock, Arkansas in October 2012.[8]
