Brief overview - What is 3C-P

3C-P is a psychedelic phenethylamine. It has structural and pharmacodynamic properties similar to the drugs mescaline, proscaline, and amphetamine. Little information exists on the human pharmacology of 3C-P, but a psychedelic dosage appears to be 20-40mg, and is accompanied by stimulant effects.

Chemically 3C-P is 4-propoxy-3,5-dimethoxyamphetamine, with the formula C14H23NO3. Although its name is similar to the psychedelic phenethylamine 2C-P, it is much closer in structure to mescaline, and proscaline. 3C-P is the 3-carbon homologue of proscaline.

3C-P is mentioned briefly in PiHKAL as the unexplored "amphetamine homologue" of proscaline (#140, or "P"). Very little is known about this substance and it should not be considered safe for human ingestion.

Type

Stimulant, possible psychedelic or empathogen.

Dosage

Very rough estimates. Threshold 5-10 mg; Medium 10-40 mg; Strong 40+ mg.

Duration

Probably long, 8 - 16 hours.

Safety

Unknown.

Field Tests

Marquis reagent reacts orange with the 3C-P sold in 2003.

Experiences

We know of a dozen or so reports of human 3C-P ingestion. Various authors, unverified provenance: 8 mg: "I want to call this a threshold"; 16 mg: "something like 5 mg of Adderall"; 20 mg: "overall, the experience was very mild"; 30 mg: "+3 euphoric period lasting 3 hours-ish and then a +2 psychedelic amphetamine feeling for another 12+ hours... unable to sleep (and kind of tired) is pretty annoying"; 30 mg: "for me, 30 mg was perfect... [but] I should reiterate that the duration was annoying"; 40 mg: "an average dose".
