General Plant Info

Long history of traditional medicinal usage and sacred significance in the middle east [see wikipedia entry for Faidherbia albida].

Geographic distribution

Israel, Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, North and East Africa. Introduced to India and Pakistan.

Identification

It is a thorny tree; leaves bipinnate; flowers wide cream-yellow rods 2-5cm; pods spiral/coiled c.1cm wide.

Alkaloid content

  • unquantified amount DMT (Shulgin, TIKHAL 1996)
  • anecdotal reports of tryptamines in Israel.
